Weekend review and results round-up
Jenson Button marked his 200th grand prix start in the ideal fashion by winning a topsy-turvy, rain-affected Hungarian Grand Prix, as Red Bull found itself defeated for the fourth time in five races, and Lewis Hamilton had a rather too eventful afternoon when victory was in sight
Off-track, the weekend started with a shock when it was announced that Sky and the BBC would share UK television rights for Formula 1 from next year - in a deal that meant only half the races would be shown live on the free-to-air channel. While fan reaction was largely furious, the F1 paddock tried to focus on the positives.
There was good news for Sauber's drivers as the team revealed that it would retain both Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio Perez, but another signing announcement raised eyebrows - as Craig Pollock's new PURE company hired FIA engine man Gilles Simon.
In other racing, Sebastien Loeb pulled off one of the greatest victories of his career as he became the first non-Scandinavian to win Rally Finland twice, after a weekend of huge pressure from Sebastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala.
Yvan Muller closed in on Rob Huff in the World Touring Car title battle, though an equally big story was 50-year-old Franz Engstler pulling off his first series victory and halting the Chevrolet winning streak in the process.
There was a maiden winner in NASCAR too, as Paul Menard played the strategy game best in an intriguing Brickyard 400.
Back in Hungary, the weather generated huge entertainment in GP2 and GP3, typified by Stefano Coletti coming from 21st on the grid to win Sunday's GP2 round.
