Williams hails Button's performance
Jenson Button will head into the Brazilian Grand Prix as Formula 1's new motor racing star following an impressive debut in Australia
The British driver was sixth when his Williams retired due to engine failure 11 laps from the end of Sunday's Melbourne race.
Despite qualifying a lowly 21st, the 20-year-old was second in Sunday's warm-up and had made up six places by the end of the opening lap of the grand prix.
Speaking to The Express, team boss Sir Frank Williams said: "Despite Jenson's lack of a finish, his underlying performance, pace and rhythm promise great things.
"For someone so young he had speed and great presence in the car. It looked as though he would finish in the points, but even though he didn't it was still a fantastic achievement."
Gerhard Berger, BMW's motor sport director, was equally impressed with the youngster.
"Jenson has closed the mouths of those who doubted his early start in Formula One," said the Austrian.
"He is a great talent."
The Brazilian Grand Prix takes place on March 26.
