Dennis: 'We'll try and win by a lap'
Ron Dennis has set his sights on lapping the entire grid to win Sunday's Australian Grand Prix
The McLarens were a lap ahead of almost the entire field two years ago but both pacesetting cars failed to finish last year's Grand Prix despite starting 1-2 on the grid.
"What we'll try and do is lead by a lap and make it to the finish," he said in Melbourne.
His McLaren was the pacesetter for most of last year and the 2000 car is even better but he says that is no guarantee of winning the world championship.
"We always ask ourselves is it better to build a car that can lead by a lap but does not finish? Now I believe we have both."
"Last year we brought a car which is far to advanced in some areas which therefore made it unreliable.
"One of the things we had at the end of last year was the fastest Formula 1 racing car. What we now know is that we have made an even faster car."
