F1 drivers call for more roll-over protection
Formula One drivers have called for greater roll-over protection to prevent serious injury in accidents
The Grand Prix Drivers' Association is lobbying the FIA, the sport's ruling body, to ask for the strength of cars' roll hoops to be improved.
Despite a number of safety improvements being implemented since the fatal accidents of 1994 - involving Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger - there are still fears that drivers could be seriously hurt.
Pedro Diniz escaped serious injury when his Sauber rolled upside down following a collision at the European Grand Prix last month.
The Brazilian, who made a full recovery to race in last weekend's Malaysian Grand Prix, urged the FIA to look into the matter and make roll hoops stronger.
He said at the time, 'It was not very nice.
'The worrying thing is that the roll hoop shouldn't break like it did.
'It can be very scary.
'In Formula 3 a few weeks before, the same thing happened and driver is now paralysed.
'It is something the FIA needs to look into carefully and try to make the roll hoop safer.'
