Irvine gets new car for Nurburgring
Eddie Irvine will drive an all-new Ferrari in this weekend's European Grand Prix in an attempt to step up his faltering title bid
It is claimed Irvine's race-car, which he has used since the start of the season, may not have been in perfect condition at the recent Italian Grand Prix - when he was off the pace.
It is claimed Irvine's chassis may have lost some of its rigidity having completed more than 5,000 miles.
A Ferrari spokesman said, 'I don't know if the problem in the set-up was caused by the chassis or not.
'Maybe the torsional stiffness is not the same.
'It's an idea. Maybe it's technical, maybe it's psychological.'
Ferrari president dispelled rumours that the team was not fully supportive of Irvine's title bid.
'I'm very upset by these sado-masochistic rumours.
'It's a theory which is somewhere between pathetic and humiliating.
'Ferrari can win both the drivers' and the constructors' championships, and to achieve that we have to improve the car, which has to go quicker, as does Irvine.'
