Liuzzi feels boosted by Vettel comparison

Vitantonio Liuzzi thinks his chances of remaining in Formula One have been boosted by the arrival of Sebastian Vettel at Scuderia Toro Rosso

The Italian is hoping to finalise his 2008 plans in the next few weeks, having been linked with Williams and Spyker, and is sure that Vettel's arrival has helped people judge his abilities better than when he was racing alongside Scott Speed.

"I have to say that the two or three opportunities shown to me (for next year) look pretty good, so I am really positive," he told autosport.com about his 2008 contract talks.

"It is good because in the last part of the championship people are realising more how quick I am and how consistent I am.

"Before, with Scott beside me, nobody thought he was fast. But now Vettel has always been rated very high and I think now everybody is realising more what I can do. That is important for the future.

"We are in a strong position for 2008. But, for sure, F1 is a mysterious sport so we just have to wait and see."

Liuzzi admitted that he was unlikely to be able to get a firm decision from teams about his 2008 offers until Fernando Alonso eventually decided what he was going to do for next year.

"I think everyone is a bit on standby because of Fernando's move," said Liuzzi. "If he does move it will change completely the strategy of the teams. I think he is a little bit of a hotspot at the moment, which is normal because he is the world champion and he maybe will be another time.

"I think when he will make it clear what is going to happen in his career all the others will have a much easier decision.

"I am really positive about it because in a couple of weeks I will know and I must say that it looks really promising."
