Raikkonen savours overdue Silverstone win
Kimi Raikkonen was happy to finally break his duck at the British Grand Prix after storming to his second consecutive victory of the season
Raikkonen had finished on the podium in the last four British Grands Prix, but had never climbed on to the top step in six starts.
The Finn, who led a Ferrari one-two in France last weekend, took the chequered flag 2.4 seconds ahead of McLaren's double world champion Fernando Alonso.
"It was very nice feeling to win the race," said the Finn. "We have been close here several times, now finally we got the win."
Raikkonen beat Alonso despite the Spaniard emerging on top after the first round of pitstops. A longer second stint allowed the Ferrari driver to pass the McLaren driver in the pits.
"We had a little traffic but we had a good car all day and all weekend," added Raikkonen.
"I just tried to save some fuel and look after the tyres and the car, and when Lewis pitted I pushed to gain some time and Fernando did a very short stop so I knew I was going to run longer in second stop.
"So I tried to push as hard as I could when he came in and that was enough."
Raikkonen is now third in the championship, still 18 points behind Lewis Hamilton and six behind Alonso.
