Coulthard frustrated but grateful for points

David Coulthard drove a storming race to fend off double champion Michael Schumacher and finish second in the Spanish Grand Prix

In the process McLaren repeated last year's 1-2 domination here.

While Hakkinen's win never really looked in doubt the McLaren mechanics used nerves of steel to deliver one of the fastest pit stops of the day Coulthard's second - to get him out of the pits in 7.4 seconds.

He raced back onto the track just 25 metres and eight-tenths of a second ahead of Schumacher to retain second place.

From there he charged away from the leading Ferrari to tie up McLaren's
first 1-2 of 1999.

'I just seemed to have traffic again today. It was no-where as near as bad
as Imola but I spent a lap behind Damon and was starting to get frustrated.

'Just when I started to think that he should know better he moved over.'

'I made things a bit difficult for myself because I ran a little bit long in the first pit stop.

'It was frustrating but it was only my second pit stop this season. In trying to make the pit stop as fast as possible I just braked too late.

'As I went off down the pitlane I apologised to then guys on the radio.

'But it is good to get six points in the bag.'
