1110BST: After 10 minutes of the first practice at Silverstone, there has been little activity on the track with a number of cars going out for one lap only.

Michael Schumacher is getting ready to join the session in the Ferrari garage.

1115BST: Williams driver Alessandro Zanardi has just put in the quickest lap of the session so far with a 1.28.863.

11.20BST: The Williams team is currently looking strong. Ralf Schumacher has just put in the fastest lap with a 1.27.613.

11.29BST: Mika Hakkinen and Michael Schumacher are both on track.

11.31BST: Jarno Trulli suffers a right-rear suspension failure on his Prost coming out of Club corner.

11.34BST: Mika Hakkinen is currently fastest with a 1.27.493, followed by Ralf Schumacher with 1.27.613 and Michael Schumacher with 1.27.889.

11.35BST: David Coulthard spins off the track, but regains control and continues his lap.

11.40BST: McLaren's David Coulthard records second fastest time, behind team -mate Mika Hakkinen.

11.42BST: Eddie Irvine fifth quickest, Damon Hill ninth.

11.45BST :A time of 1.29.780 set by Irvine. Benettons yet to record flying laps.

11.48BST: Ralf Schumacher sets quickest time of day (1.27.422). Alexander Wurz (Benetton) yet to do a fast lap.

11.51BST: Wurz records a 1.28.8 lap.

11.52BST: Hakkinen sets fastest time of the day - 1.27.43 - and immediately sets out on another quick one (1.27.58).

11.55BST: Coulthard rejoins the session.

11.56BST: Michael Schumacher crosses the line to set fastest lap of 1.27.33, but it is immediately bettered by his team-mate Eddie Irvine - 1.27.18.

11.58BST: Hakkinen sets fastest time again - 1.27.059.

11.59BST: Hakkinen returns to the pits.
