Toyota Aim to Win in Malaysia
Toyota believe they have a chance of winning Sunday's Malaysian Grand Prix after three years without even a podium finish
Italian Jarno Trulli lapped second quickest in first qualifying for Sunday's race at Sepang, after being fastest in final practice, while his German team mate Ralf Schumacher finished fifth.
"We have been able to show the full potential of the TF105 over the last two days," said technical director Mike Gascoyne.
"Two cars in the top five is an exceptionally positive start for the team. We need to look carefully at our strategy for second qualifying tomorrow morning to try and take pole and subsequently endeavour to win the race. The top step of the podium must be our aim tomorrow."
Trulli, winner in Monaco for Renault last year, started the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on the front row but finished ninth. Toyota, with one of the biggest budgets in Formula One, entered the sport in 2002 but have so far had little to celebrate.
Fifth place remains their best result yet.
