Ralf Schumacher maintains innocence
Ralf Schumacher says television replays prove that he didn't cause the first-corner incident at the German Grand Prix. The Williams driver has been blamed for moving over on Rubens Barrichello, and has received a 10-place grid penalty for the Hungarian Grand Prix from the FIA
"As odd as it may sound, I didn't see the crash while I was still at Hockenheim," said the German. "It was only when I got home that I could sit down in front of the television and go over and over the scenes. And my verdict is still the same- there is nothing there which could be classed as anything other than a racing incident."
Hockenheim race stewards said that Schumacher was "paying no attention" to the position of other cars on the track. His squeeze on Barrichello caused Kimi Raikkonen to run onto the grass and spin.
Schumacher maintains that he gave Barrichello enough room and could not have been aware of Kimi Raikkonen's presence on the outside as the field ran down to the first corner.
Williams have appealed Schumacher's grid penalty. The hearing will take place on August 19th.
