Williams's Alex Lynn says F1 test debut better than Friday running

Alex Lynn says he is pleased his first drive in a Williams Formula 1 car will be in this week's post-Spanish Grand Prix test rather than a Friday practice session.

Lynn, who took his first win in GP2 at Barcelona with DAMS on Sunday, will drive on the second day of the two-day test at the Circuit de Catalunya, taking over from Felipe Massa.

"I'm a lot happier doing that [a test] than an FP1, because I think that would detract from a GP2 race weekend," Williams development driver Lynn told AUTOSPORT.

"I'm glad that I've got a test where I can build on laps and hopefully show what I'm made of.

"I'm buzzing to get in the Williams. It's such an iconic team, driving out of the pitlane is going to be an amazing moment.

"I really want to do a good job to show them that I am prepared, that I am ready and that I am there to hopefully be the future.

"This is my one chance so far and I need to grab it and show what I can do."

It will be the 21-year-old's second drive in an F1 car after making his testing debut with Lotus in last winter's Abu Dhabi sessions following his GP3 title win.

As part of his Williams role, Lynn has been carrying out extensive work in the team's simulator in preparation for the test and he says that experience combined with his form in GP2 has helped.

"The best thing I've had is the whole weekend in Spain [in GP2], so that's the track sorted," said Lynn.

"We have done loads of simulator work, so I know every button that I am going to touch on the steering wheel.

"It is just going to come down to me learning the car and driving it as quickly as I can."
