Mika hopes it will be third time lucky in Suzuka
Mika Hakkinen is looking for a third consecutive Japanese Grand Prix victory to keep his championship hopes alive
The McLaren star is eight points behind rival Michael Schumacher going into the penultimate round of the world championship. The Finn has won both his world championships at Suzuka and although he can't claim the title this time around at the Japanese circuit, 10 points would ensure the title fight would go down to the wire in Malaysia.
"I have a special relationship with the Japanese Grand Prix as I have claimed my two world titles there," said Hakkinen.
"I like the Suzuka track, but overtaking can be difficult and the incredibly tight chicane situated just before the start/finish straight is considered the best opportunity. I am focused as ever and determined to leave Japan with a victory."
Hakkinen's last victory was at Spa, and a brace of Ferrari wins at Monza and Indianapolis has left Michael Schumacher in the driving seat with just two races to go.
