F1 Dutch GP live commentary and updates - race

Live Standings

Summary

Live Text

Norris is falling away from Antonelli a little bit, as he tries to cling onto the overtake range. I think he'll rue that start.

Colapinto serves his penalty - maybe I was right the first time, and Lindblad has done his. F1's timing tower was confusing, but it's no longer showing the outstanding penalties.

Colapinto has also been awarded a drive-through penalty. My mistake - Lindblad has not served his penalty, and did a tyre stop, so they've both got to serve something for their yellow-flag incidents.

"Class half rain in a few minutes' time", Norris is told, which is 'not much' in F1 speak.

Norris is still within Antonelli's overtake range, but he needs to make use of those softs as soon as possible.

Replay of Piastri's move on Russell, which was absolutely sublime.

Lindblad has a drive-through penalty, which he serves immediately.

Leclerc is still all over Russell, aiming to claim fourth place here. Piastri isn't pulling away on the hard tyre, which is allowing Hamilton to get in on this. Lawson might be able to join in too.

Restart

And here we go again! Norris doesn't have a good start and Antonelli snatches the lead into Turn 1.  You could see that, as Norris seemed to have a huge delay in his departure from the grid.

Piastri then sneaks past Russell at Turn 7, and Leclerc is now putting pressure on the Mercedes.

The rear-guard is taking its time a bit, isn't it? Everyone seems to be in the right place this time...

Extra formation lap - so that'll save the front runners a little bit after losing a ton of tyre temperature by waiting on the grid. Norris is doing a quick formation lap to build that tyre temp.

That said, I think there were a few drivers in the wrong position on the grid.

The drivers at the back have only just been released from the pit lane, as they were shown a red light incorrectly. Bizarre.

Bearman's stopped on-track. "My engine broke, everything turned off". This is probably going to be an aborted start...

Norris has put some soft tyres on, so for a standing start it might help his cause off the line.

The cars now leave the pit lane. Leclerc has new softs, Piastri has hards. New mediums for Lindblad and Colapinto, new softs for Alonso, Stroll, and Sainz.

Bortoleto had lost a hatful of places at the start of the race, falling to 13th (briefly 14th) behind the two Racing Bulls and the two Alpines.

The Audi launches off the grid still appear to be a bit difficult.

Resumption time

Race will resume in 10 minutes' time.

Ocon was going to be investigated for passing under the yellow flag, but I think it's fine as he's being shuffled back a place. The order is as you were at the end of lap one, I believe.

Lindblad and Colapinto are being looked into, however.

Resumption order is as you are, except Ocon will be put back behind Albon. Albon thus moves back into 13th place.

"What Esteban did is crazy, he's overtaking in the middle of a crash," Albon complains over the radio.

Hulkenberg was a wafer away from making contact with the spinning Bortoleto; he picked left and the reflexes were absolutely inch-perfect.

Gasly seems to be getting a new front wing in the pit lane. The Frenchman made up a place on Bortoleto at the start, and now sits ninth.

Lawson and Gasly took incredible evasive action in the impact; Lawson had to keep it absolutely pinned to avoid Verstappen, and Gasly had to back off.

Bortoleto did indeed have his own spin, did a full 360, and then kept it going. Lucky boy, lots of positions lost but he fights another day.

We are officially on the third lap now.

We get a start replay, Russell was slow off the line and Piastri tried to pass - but yeah, as we said, got boxed in and Leclerc managed to steam through.

Verstappen got guided onto the grass by Hamilton at the start, and Lawson tried an audacious move around the outside of his team-mate at Turn 3. Hamilton, in turn was trying to evade contact with a fast-starting Leclerc.

Verstappen just lost grip around that slightly damp inside line at Turn 14 and careened into the barrier. Everyone was so tentative in that corner, but Verstappen seemed to dip a wheel on that white line.

Lawson managed to evade the incident, although it's not entirely clear what happened to Bortoleto there - it seems to be that he's had his own spin, and lost position. Everything appears to be fine for the Brazilian, however, despite dropping to 18th.

There's a huge crash at Turn 14! Verstappen is out, and I think he's hit Bortoleto.

Verstappen reports that he's okay, but that's a red flag. Big accident there.

The 2026 Dutch GP is go!

Norris gets a good start and makes hay off the line. Antonelli nips past Russell, who boxes in Piastri and allows Leclerc to get past into fourth. Hamilton, Verstappen, and Lawson are in pursuit.

It looks a bit more damp in the final sector, so a bit of caution might be required in the opening few laps. Norris parks up in his grid position.

The formation lap is under way, and Norris leads the pack off the grid, followed by the two Mercedes, the Ferraris, the Red Bulls, Bortoleto, and Lindblad.

It might be a bit slippery on the 'dirty' side of the grid...

So we don't have rain, but we do have a big spread of tyre strategies - and 72 laps to account for. Let's see how this goes.

"Normal grip conditions declared" - the rain's not really done its job here, has it?

Slick tyres for all: mediums for Norris, Russell, Antonelli, Piastri, Gasly, Colapinto and Ocon.

Soft tyres for Hamilton, Leclerc, Verstappen, Lawson, Bortoleto, Lindblad, Tsunoda, Hulkenberg, Albon, Sainz, Alonso, Stroll, Bearman.

Hard tyres for Bottas and Perez.

Just under 10 minutes to go! It's not looking hugely wet on the grid, is it? Possibly a few slick-tyre starts, if there's no more rain.

Quick update: Sergio Perez is starting from the pit lane. He was due to start from 22nd anyway, so it's not a massive difference.

More rain info from Fil Cleeren: Rain has stopped on the grid, but the circuit is still pretty wet - and the skies are also "ominous".

I think everyone wants the spice of a wet race, perhaps except those at the front of the grid...

Dutch GP memories

So if this is, indeed, the last Dutch Grand Prix (at least, for some time) then we've curated our memories of visiting or watching races at Zandvoort.

Please do take a look!

Farewell Zandvoort: Our writers' personal highlights from the F1 Dutch GP

The question is, will it be sufficiently wet enough to change the complexion of the race?

There's still 35 minutes to go before the start, so let's hope it remains at least a little bit wet...

Qualifying recap

Lando Norris beat both Mercedes drivers to pole in a closely contested qualifying session, setting a 1m11.163s on his second flyer of Q3 to nose ahead of George Russell by a tenth.

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli starts third, alongside Oscar Piastri on the second row.

The zands of time are almost over...

Hello everyone, and thanks for joining us on our live coverage of the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. For the time being, this will be the last F1 race at Zandvoort - and the fans have descended onto the Dutch coast en masse for the last dance.

Let's hope it's a fitting end!
