Meeke: Scottish stage is world's best
Rally of Scotland leader Kris Meeke has praised the organisers' use of the Loch Ard stage - a test he has described as the best in the world
Meeke extended his lead over Guy Wilks by eight seconds on Loch Ard, today's third stage, and when he reached the finish, the recently crowned Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion could not stop smiling.
"This is the best stage I've ever driven," said Meeke. "Of all the stages in Finland and all over the world that I have driven, nothing compares with this. All the crests in there, everything, it was just amazing. When you are enjoying yourself like that, you're not always thinking so much about the time - but that was good as well: we took eight seconds out of Guy as well."
Peugeot driver Meeke's lead now stands at 26 seconds over Wilks and the Skoda Fabia.
Having watched the stage live on Eurosport, Meeke's team principal Marc van Dalen said: "Kris did the perfect drive. He made the right choice for the tyre this morning and then did a fantastic job in the stage, like he has done all rally.
"I cross the finger for the rest of the day, there are still three tough stages to come - and we are expecting some rain this afternoon, but he deserves to win here, like he has deserved to win all of this year."
