Werner to stand in for Premat
Marco Werner will replace the injured Alexandre Premat for the next DTM round at Oschersleben
The 41-year-old has not raced in the DTM since 1993, and he has spent most of his time in recent years racing with Audi in sportscars.
"Obviously I would have much rather got this opportunity under completely different circumstances," said Werner, who has won the Le Mans 24 Hours twice.
"I am delighted about the confidence placed in me by Audi. I wish Alexandre a speedy recovery, and I'll do my utmost to fly the flag for him as his deputy."
Premat cracked a lumbar vertebra last weekend at Hockenheim when he collided with the spinning car of Tom Kristensen on his DTM debut.
The Frenchman was discharged from hospital on Thursday, and he is aiming to be back behind the wheel in time for the third round of the season at Lausitz on May 20.
Audi's other factory sportscar drivers, Allan McNish, Dindo Capello, Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro have all experienced the new generation DTM in recent years, although the quartet enjoyed little success in the series.
