Premat prepared to wait for new car

Alexandre Premat says that he will continue to give 100 per cent for Audi even if he does not get promoted to their top DTM squad in 2008

The former GP2 star shone during his debut DTM season in a one-year-old Audi, and he has been tipped to get a brand new car for next year after he nearly won a race in the older machinery.

Premat gave away victory at Zandvoort to help Martin Tomczyk's championship bid, and the French driver admitted that he was thinking of his long-term career with Audi when he pulled over.

"I hope to get a new car for next year, but we will see," Premat told autosport.com. "I think it is possible to win the championship, because I know the tracks and the team.

"But even if I don't get a new car, the 2007 car is nice and if I have that I will do the maximum to be on the podium."

Audi are expected to announce their 2008 plans at the Essen Motor Show later this month, and Premat added that while he would speak to Audi's head of motorsport Wolfgang Ullrich about his options, he is also prepared to be patient.

"We need to speak with Dr Ullrich, then we will see," he said. "I want to succeed in the DTM, and I want to fit with Audi for as long as possible."
