Paffett targets podium at Norisring

Gary Paffett believes that he can get a podium finish in his one-year-old Mercedes this weekend at the Norisring

The 2005 DTM champion has won at the street circuit twice in the past, and he is expecting to be strong again this season.

"Norisring is one of my favourite circuits, and we've got to go there looking to finish well in the points," Paffett told autosport.com.

"I know the circuit well and I drive it very well, so hopefully we can get a podium finish."

Paffett had a disappointing weekend on home soil at Brands Hatch, but he acknowledged that his poor result will at least mean he has less success ballast this weekend.

"It's a shame we were heavy at Brands, but at least we can go to Norisring with a bit less weight and the opportunity to have a good result," the 26-year-old added.

The British driver also admitted that his team still haven't solved the problems that keep costing them in qualifying.

"We've got a good car, but in the latter parts of qualifying we seem to struggle," he said. "We need to concentrate on that.

"At every race, we've pretty much easily got through the first session of qualifying and then struggled in the second of third session, so more focus needs to be on qualifying."
