Mercedes hope to surprise Audi

Mercedes have said that they are hoping to spring a surprise in today's DTM race at Mugello

Audi have dominated the weekend so far, and they have left their rivals baffled by their advantage.

Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug believes that the team did not make a lot of progress in the warm-up, but he did not rule out the possibility of a good result.

"Hopefully we will be better in the race, and maybe we can surprise people," he said. "We have surprised people in the past.

"Nobody is depressed, we will work hard and we will go for it. I wouldn't be surprised if we find something for the race."

Bruno Spengler was the lead Mercedes driver in qualifying, but the Canadian is only starting sixth on the grid.

"We have improved over the weekend," said Spengler. "The engineers have reacted well, and I have improved my driving style.

"Our long runs are not too bad, and I think it will be an interesting race. Our speed should be good."
