Mercedes aces vow to play team game
Bruno Spengler and Bernd Schneider have vowed to help their Mercedes teammates Jamie Green and Paul di Resta in this year's DTM title race
The two British drivers are nine points adrift of Audi's Timo Scheider with three rounds to go, while Spengler and Schneider are now too far adrift to get into contention.
"I will still go to every race trying to win," Spengler told "But if the situation comes up where I can help them, of course I will do it."
Team orders are banned in the DTM following last year's Zandvoort race where four Audi's changed position heading to the finish line, but Schneider is also keen to aid his HWA teammates is any way that he can.
"When I was leading at the Nurburgring I considered slowing down for Paul," he said. "But I didn't because it would have looked like team orders, even though it would have been my decision.
"But I will try to help both of those guys in any way I can for the rest of the year. The important thing is that Mercedes wins the title."
Di Resta is not too concerned by his deficit in the standings after Brands Hatch, and he believes that Mercedes will be strong at the remaining races at Barcelona, Le Mans and Hockenheim.
"We only need to make up three points a race on Scheider, so when you look at it like that it's not too bad," the Scot told . "It's not over, and I wouldn¹t be surprised if the situation changes a couple of times before the end of the year anyway."
