Ekstrom: Kristensen deserved to win
Mattias Ekstrom admitted that Audi teammate and polesitter Tom Kristensen deserved to win today's DTM race at Brands Hatch
Ekstrom took the victory after Kristensen, who had dominated the first three quarters of the race, retired with a suspected left front suspension failure. Jamie Green looked as if he would then win, however he ran off the road under pressure from Ekstrom.
Ekstrom's ninth career victory moved him from tenth to fifth in the championship hunt following a troubled start to the season.
"It's a great feeling to win again," Ekstrom said. "Tom Kristensen deserved to win, he was the quickest yesterday and he was extremely quick today, but I know how that feels because I've had that a couple of times this year.
"Our strategy was to be quick at the end. We knew that for the last 10 laps, there would be tyres and drivers tiring, so we did a long second stint, and planned to be fit for the last 15 laps.
"During that stint I was alone nearly all the time, so I could do my own pace. When you pit early you get more traffic. Some you win and some you lose and this time we won."
