Biela to replace Kristensen

Frank Biela will race for Audi at Oschersleben this weekend in place of the recovering Tom Kristensen

Kristensen had hoped to be fit to race this weekend after his accident at Hockenheim, but Audi have taken a last minute decision to rest the Dane after consulting with doctors.

Audi's head of motorsport Wolfgang Ullrich said: "The health of our drivers is of highest priority.

"We want to give Tom the opportunity to recover completely before climbing back into the cockpit. In view of the severity of the accident, he simply needs time."

Biela has a relatively free schedule this year, as he is not a part of Audi's full-time American Le Mans Series plans.

The 1991 DTM champion last raced in the series in 2004, and he is expecting a tough return to action this weekend despite Audi's strong start to the season.

"I know just how close things are in the DTM and how difficult it will be to hit the ground running without any testing," he said.

"On the other hand I heard that the new Audi A4 is great to drive. I'm intrigued and will do everything to do a good job as cover for Tom."
