Biela struggling on DTM return

Frank Biela has admitted that he has found it difficult to adapt to driving in the DTM for the first time since 2004

Biela struggling on DTM return

The German is standing in for Tom Kristensen at Oschersleben this weekend, but so far he has been at the bottom of the timesheets in free practice.

Biela feels that his biggest problem has been with the kerbs at the circuit, as a DTM car reacts differently to the LMP1 cars he has raced in recent years.

"Being quick is difficult," he said. "I have been trying to find the best racing line, because I wasn't able to drive over the kerbs as much as before in the sportscar.

"That's the most difficult thing for me to get used to, but unfortunately there was a oil leak on Friday so I wasn't able to drive that much."

However, Biela has enjoyed his return to the series so far, even if he has struggled for pace.

"To be back in a DTM car after such a long time is fun," he added. "This car is more pleasant to drive than the car was in 2004."

Biela is standing in for Kristensen at Audi's lead outfit, Team Abt, and team boss Hans-Jurgen Abt added that the team were doing their best to help him get up to speed.

"Frank was thrown into cold water here, and now is trying to learn as quickly as possible with his engineer," said Abt. "We're supporting him as much as we can."
