Turkington doubles up at Croft
Colin Turkington took his second win in the space of a few hours, claiming a lights-to-flag victory in the second British Touring Car Championship race of the day at Croft
The Team RAC driver never led by more than a second in the 16-lap race, but kept himself out of trouble and held off a determined charge by Mat Jackson to do it. The victory was BMW's 50th BTCC success.
Jackson started way down in 18th, but drove sensationally to carve through the field and finish second, just a tenth of a second behind Turkington.
He used the superb acceleration of his German machine to slingshot past his rivals exiting Tower, with that particular move accounting for Tom Onslow-Cole, Jason Plato, Fabrizio Giovanardi and Matt Neal.
The move on the Vauxhalls propelled him into second and a mighty tankslapper from Turkington entering the Complex on the final lap almost enabled him to sneak by into the hairpin. Second though, was still a superb result.
Neal finished third for Vauxhall, ahead of Rob Collard, who was able to hang on the double champion's tail all race long and only lost third to Jackson after sliding wide exiting the chicane on the penultimate lap.
Steven Kane ought to have made it Motorbase BMWs in fourth and fifth, but the Northern Irishman slowed dramatically on the final lap and was classified in 19th place.
His technical problem allowed Giovanardi to claim fifth, although his championship lead over team-mate Neal still reduced from 20 points to 16.
Adam Jones finished seventh in his Team Air-Cool SEAT, with Mike Jordan's Eurotech Honda and the SEATs of Jason Plato and Darren Turner completing the top 10.
Gordon Shedden, who finished on the podium in race one, retired with damage following a coming together with Neal on lap three that resulted in the Honda striking the barriers at Tower.
