Giovanardi takes race three victory

Fabrizio Giovanardi increased his British Touring Car Championship lead with victory in the third and final race of the day at Croft

The reigning champion took the lead from the fast-starting Rob Collard at Tower on lap three and was able to stay in front of the field for the rest of the race, taking his fourth win of the year.

Adam Jones equalled the best result of his career by taking second place in his Team Air-Cool SEAT, holding off Matt Neal's Vauxhall to the flag. Neal's result means he is now 23 points behind Giovanardi in the championship.

Jones took second place on lap eight of 18 after coming out on top of a side-by-side battle with Collard's Motorbase BMW at Sunny. Collard, who had to go wide as a result, had his front splitter removed by Mike Jordan and both drivers retired soon after.

Tom Chilton, who was up from 14th on the grid, held off Mat Jackson for the final 10 laps to take fourth in his Team Halfords Honda. Jackson had a number of chances to get by, but was plagued by the 36 kilos of success ballast his BMW Dealer UK car was carrying after he finished second in race two.

Jackson went through the gravel at Clervaux on the opening lap after a touch from a rival, and it was he who made contact with Darren Turner at the same corner on lap six that resulted in the SEAT man's retirement.

Gordon Shedden, Tom Onslow-Cole, double winner Colin Turkington, Stephen Jelley - taking a career-best ninth - and Andrew Jordan were next up.

Jason Plato finished 12th to round off a miserable day for SEAT in which they scored just four points. Plato was launched up on to two wheels in a failed attempt to pass Turkington's Team RAC BMW at the hairpin, and slipped to the rear end of the field after taking to the grass in recovery.
