Neal takes race two

Matt Neal extended his lead in the British Touring Car Championship with his fourth win of the season in the second race at Thruxton

Neal, who started second on the grid behind fellow Team Dynamics racer Gordon Shedden, took the lead at the start and, despite never being able to break away from the chasing pack, held that lead to the flag.

Shedden spent much of the race repulsing the challenge of SEAT's Darren Turner before finally breaking away with two laps to go. Turner attempted to pass the Scot on the inside of the left-hander at Cobb, with the pair making contact. While Shedden gathered a big slide to retain second, both Rob Collard's MG and the inspired David Pinkney's Motorbase Performance-run Honda Integra-R flew past the SEAT.

Pinkney, who had started from the back of the field after contact with Fabrizio Giovanardi put him out of race one with a broken steering rack, had earlier forced his way past both Tom Chilton and the second MG of Colin Turkington on his way to a career-best fourth.

Seventh place, and pole position for race three, went to Synchro Motorsport's James Kaye, with the struggling Vauxhall pair of Giovanardi and Chilton holding off the late challenge of Jason Hughes's independent MG for eighth and ninth.

Jason Plato suffered more bad luck in the lead SEAT, following up his puncture-induced retirement from race one with another DNF through suspension damage after contact with the third Vauxhall of Gavin Smith. The other major retirement was Mike Jordan, who struggled with gear linkage problems and completed only eight laps in his ex-Matt Neal Honda Integra-R.
