Turkington wins race three

Colin Turkington took his first victory of 2006 by winning the final race of the day at Thruxton

Turkington took the lead from polesitter James Kaye after outdragging the Honda Civic driver at the start, and once he had the lead he was never challenged. He continued to pull away and took victory by an impressive 11.5 seconds to maintain his championship pursuit of Team Dynamic's Matt Neal.

"I guess it looked easy to everyone, but it wasn't," said Turkington. "It was full concentration throughout. The start was key to it. I am delighted to get the first win for Team RAC."

Matt Neal scored some useful points for his championship defence with a strong second, ahead of Jason Plato, who put in the drive of the race.

Plato had started from the rear of the field after his accident in the second race, but worked his way up through the field to take the final podium position.

Kaye held onto fourth from Dave Pinkney and Rob Collard, who had battled throughout.

Collard lost out however after a clash with the Alfa Romeo of Mark Smith. The MG ZS tapped Smith into a spin while lapping him, which allowed Pinkney the chance to get back through.

Darren Turner's impressive weekend came to an end on the first lap. Having secured third place in his maiden BTCC race earlier today, he was punted off by a late-braking Gordon Shedden.

Shedden pulled alongside the MG ZS of Rob Collard on the run up to the Club Chicane, and appeared to outbrake himself. He ran into the side of an already-turning Turner, who spun off at high speed into the tyre barriers.

Shedden himself appeared set for second, however with five laps to go he suffered a front-right puncture and had to pit.
