Gow pleased with ballast system
British Touring Car Championship boss Alan Gow believes that the series has got its performance balancing right after last year's close title fight
The World Touring Car Championship made several changes to weight limits and other specifications of cars to keep the field equal throughout the year, while the DTM made a slight adjustment to its success ballast system early in the season.
However, the BTCC system remained the same throughout the season, and the title fight went down to the final race of the year at Thruxton.
"One thing I'm very proud of is that in 2007 we did not alter the weights at all," Gow said on the main stage at this year's Autosport International show.
"I'm dead against fiddling too much with the specifications of the cars, and it's fair to say that some of the other championships get caught into a bind fiddling around too much."
Gow added that he couldn't be happier with last year's BTCC season, and he expects more of the same in 2008.
"You couldn't ask for much more than we had this year, and every indication is that the championship will be that close again," he said.
"We didn't touch our rules once last year, and look what happened. We had great races, a great championship, and the rear-wheel drive BMWs were competitive.
"Obviously on some tracks, one car was better than another, and this year we will have some tracks where the diesel (SEAT Leon) will be better and vice versa, but it works well."
