WTCC teams complete Catalunya test
Leading World Touring Car Championship teams Chevrolet, Polestar Volvo and SUNRED SEAT completed two significant days of testing at Catalunya this week
For Chevrolet, the test was the final chance to work on the new-for-2011 1.6-litre turbocharged engine before the cars travel to Curitiba in Brazil for the season-opener in March.
World champion Yvan Muller and Rob Huff were in action for Chevrolet, with Muller admitting that he would have preferred to have more time to get used to the new engine.
"I feel quite good in the car although I have done only four days of testing so far, which is not enough when you have to cope with a new car and new regulations," he said.
"With the turbo engine the Chevrolet is now very similar to the SEAT turbodiesel in terms of driveability and set-up."
Polestar had both its WTCC driver Robert Dahlgren and newly-signed Scandinavian series driver James Thompson on track in Volvo C30s in preparation for the team's first full world championship season. The Volvos are still running normally aspirated engines at present.
"We still have a lot work to do, especially on the new turbo engine," said Dahlgren. "We are looking forward to start using it as soon as it will be possible, though we still don't know when this will happen."
SUNRED ran SEAT regulars Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro alongside recent signing Pepe Oriola and Hong Kong's Paul Ip.
