Thompson may drive independent car
James Thompson says that he is prepared to drive an independent car in next year's World Touring Car Championship if it means he can stay with the N.Technology team
The British driver returned to the squad in 2007 for the final year of their tie-up with Alfa Romeo, although the operation lacked any manufacturer support this year.
While he is optimistic that the team can get some sort of factory deal for next year, he believes that their performance this year proves they can be a success even without a manufacturer.
"The team are talking to a number of manufacturers for 2008, and they really deserve to have a factory contract," Thompson told the WTCC website.
"I hope it happens, otherwise, it looks like we'll have to do something on an independent basis.
"Whatever, these guys are really good and I have 100 per cent faith that they'll give me a car that is capable of winning races."
Thompson raced for the team in the first year of the reborn WTCC in 2005, but he switched to SEAT for 2006, before going back to the Italian squad, and he is not keen on moving to a new team again.
"I've learned that chopping and changing teams every year doesn't get you anywhere," he added.
"You have to build working relationships with people and staying with N.Technology, who have proved this year what a capable bunch they are, is the right move."
N.Technology have been linked in particular to some sort of deal with Honda for next year, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
