Porto WTCC: Yvan Muller dominates practice two

Yvan Muller blitzed the field in the final World Touring Car practice session around the streets of Porto

The Frenchman took command in the final minutes, storming to a 2m06.864s that would prove more way beyond the reach of the rest of the field.

Only two men - Honda's Gabriele Tarquini and new Chevrolet recruit Pepe Oriola - were able to get within one second of the time, putting them second and third respectively.

Norbert Michelisz's Zengo-run Civic was fourth, for example, but 1.039s off Muller's pace.

Fernando Monje was the best SEAT driver in fifth, just ahead of free practice one pacesetter Tom Coronel's ROAL BMW.

Alex MacDowall ended the session seventh overall, having temporarily been top before late improvements bumped him down.

His 2m08.296s was still enough to edge Muller's RML stablemate Tom Chilton.

Behind the Briton Tom Boardman - back in the WTCC fold after missing the last two rounds - put his Special Tuning SEAT ninth, just ahead of Hugo Valente, returning this weekend with Campos.

His team-mate Nikolay Karamyshev ended the session in the tyres at the final chicane, having earlier run straight on and through the emergency run-off at Turn 15.

While that incident only brought out yellows, the session had been halted earlier when Tiago Monteiro's Honda gave out just eight minutes in.

The local favourite ended down in 23rd as a result.
