Menu fastest in two-day test

Alain Menu set the fastest time during two days of WTCC testing at Oschersleben this week

The Chevrolet driver set the fastest time of the entire test during Tuesday morning, and his best lap was marginally faster than BMW's Jorg Muller, who had been fastest on the first day.

Menu only joined the test for the second day after Nicola Larini drove the car for day one, while Rob Huff drove a second Chevrolet Lacetti for both days, and he set the third fastest time of the test.

SEAT had also performed well on day one, as touring car rookie Tiago Monteiro was second fastest behind Muller.

BMW were not too concerned with their performance though, as they were running their cars with ballast.

"We tested with the ballast that we expect to have here on race day," said Felix Porteiro, "so we loaded each car with 60 kilograms.

"I am not worrying about the likes of SEAT in these tests, but the other BMWs because I know how much weight they are carrying."

Despite the performance of the SEATs during the test, Gabriele Tarquini believes that the changes to the German track have hindered the Spanish cars.

"Our car is very good, but here we saw that the changes to the track are not in our favour," he said. "The new chicane enhances understeer and after a few laps we are in trouble."

The last official test of the season will take place at Monza next week, before the teams get back to racing with the second round of the season at Zandvoort on May 5.
