Larini angry at Rydell after race 2
Nicola Larini has criticised the actions of Rickard Rydell after the Swedish driver snatched victory from his teammate on the final lap at Anderstorp
Rydell was making a one-off appearance for Chevrolet last weekend, and in the second race he caught the Lacettis of Larini and Menu on the final lap, and dived past them both to score a victory on home soil.
Larini and Menu had started the race on wet tyres, and Rydell had charged into contention ion the closing stages as the track had tried and he was running on slicks. After the race, Larini had made his feelings very clear when speaking to Rydell.
"I asked him if he was happy," said the Italian, who has not won a race since 2003. "Normally, teammates, on the last lap, we respect, and we don't take risks."
Larini attempted to defend his position in the final corner, but he locked up under braking and ran wide, handing Rydell the position.
"I was really very cross, to go straight on, and to lose my race on the grass," he added. "I think the Swedish fans are happy today, but not me."
Rydell defended himself by pointing out that he had played the team game in race one, when he sat behind Larini and Menu to enable them to finish seventh and eighth, which meant that they would start race two from the front row.
"I think I did everything the team asked of me in race one," he said. "I could have done a lot more, and I settled for the worst position of all, finishing ninth.
"I didn't really have to, but I did it for the team. So I thought that was enough and I wanted to win race two."
The former BTCC champion added that he didn't think the Chevrolet drivers were in the hunt for this year's WTCC title.
"Obviously Nicola and Alain are fighting for the drivers' championship, but if you look at the table they are quite a way behind," he said.
"Ultimately I don't think they are fighting to win the championship. I'm here for one race, and it's my home race in Sweden."
