Fuel pump problem costs Muller
Yvan Muller's chances of winning the World Touring Car Championship were thwarted by a fuel pump problem, the Frenchman said after Sunday's races
The SEAT driver was leading the first race when he slowed with less than two laps remaining, eventually retiring. He then failed to start the second race, leaving Andy Priaulx and James Thompson to fight for the crown.
"The fuel pump fell off one lap from the end," said Muller. "It's something that never happened before, it was the first time.
"That's it. That cost us the title. But I have to say well done to BMW and Andy, they were quick all season, they win the championship. They are the best and we are second."
Muller added that he was happy with his year overall, as he had made up ground in the second half of the season when SEAT introduced their diesel engine.
"When we came back from Anderstorp, we didn't think to be at this level," he said. "It is very disappointing for all the team but we can be pleased with the second place anyway."
