Farfus fastest again at Monza

Augusto Farfus continued his good start to the weekend at Monza by posting the fastest time during the final practice session ahead of qualifying this afternoon

Times were fractionally slower than they had been this morning, with Farfus's best being 2:01.006, around 0.4s off his time from the earlier session.

But the emphasis for all three manufacturers seemed to be less on going for a time and more on refining their slipstreaming technique in order to maximise their speed down Monza's long straights.

BMW dominated the timesheets, with Jorg Muller and a vastly improved Andy Priaulx rounding out the top three, although there had been red faces in the early part of the session when Muller ran a little too close to Farfus on the run to the first corner and inadvertently punted the Brazilian across the chicane.

Alessandro Zanardi spent most of the session in the garage while repairs to his 320si were completed following this morning's accident, but he still managed to go 12th fastest despite only completing three laps.

BMW Team Italy-Spain teammate Felix Porteiro was also a spectator for much of the session after beaching his car at the Parabolica.

Rob Huff was quickest of the Chevrolets in fourth, ahead of Gabriele Tarquini in the first of the SEAT Leon TDIs. Marc Gene (SEAT) and Alain Menu (Chevrolet) were next, with Nicola Larini (Chevrolet), Yvan Muller (SEAT) and the Independent SEAT of Pierre-Yves Corthals rounding out the top 10.
