Stage four: Makinen slides as Auriol flies
After SS4 of the Rally Australia, Didier Auriol has a 3.8s advantage over second-placed Colin McRae
Title challenger Auriol has been fastest on every stage of the second leg so far, while his championship rival Tommi Makinen has slipped slowly further behind. The Finn is now down to fifth behind the resurgent Richard Burns.
In Formula Two, everything is going according to plan for Hyundai, who need a 1-2 finish in order to have a chance of stealing the title from Renault. Kenneth Eriksson and Alister McRae currently lead the category for Hyundai, followed by the Renaults of Tapio Laukkanen and Martin Rowe, and the VW Golf of Mark Higgins.
