SS11, Passo Teglia 2: Auriol second
Peugeot's Didier Auriol has edged back into second place as his battle with Citroen's Sebastien Loeb continues to rage on
Auriol set the quickest time over the 14km stage and it proved just enough to steal back second place. The gap between the pair is a scant nine tenths of a second.
Italian Peugeot driver Renato Trevaglia showed a good turn of pace to set the second best stage time, ahead of the rally leader Gilles Panizzi, whose lead over Auriol and Loeb has now stretched to 42 seconds.
Joint world championship leader Colin McRae continued to pull away from title rival Tommi Makinen in their battle for 10th place. The Scot set the sixth best time over the stage, now that his Ford Focus is running competitively for the first time this weekend. But with a 34 second gap to ninth placed Peugeot driver Simon Jean-Joseph, his prediction that it is going to be almost impossible to score drivers' championship points here looks likely to be true.
