SS 11, Vastila: Rovanpera shades it

Harri Rovanpera was narrowly fastest over the second stage of Rally Finland's second leg, the 17.40km Vastila. Ford's Francois Delecour Subaru's Markko Martin, rally leader Markus Gronhom and Ford's Colin McRae were next up, all within 1.3s of Rovanpera. Gronholm and McRae set exactly the same time

Delecour's sparkling fightback from his first leg power steering woes continues, though he's still outrside the top 15 overall. McRae has now moved up to fifth place overall, overhauling Didier Auriol's Peugeot on Vastila.

Sebastian Lindholm showed well again, sixth fastest in his Peugeot, while Richard Burns was best of the rest, seventh quickest on the stage, 4.2s slower than Rovanpera and still firmly ensconced in second place overall.

Rovanpera though is not a happy man. His Peugeot has a leaking shock absorber and he says it's only a matter of time before it fails and he is faced with the same problem that cost him second place yesterday. There is one more stage to complete before the offending damper can be changed at service.

Toni Gardemeister is making steady progress in the Mitsubishi and was eightth fastest through the stage, while Toyota privateer Janne Tuohino matched Peugeot works man Didier Auriol for ninth fastest time ahead of Ford's Carlos Sainz, Subaru's Petter Solberg and Hyundai's Alister McRae. Focus man Jani Paasonen is fighting back from his stage 10 shunt, just 12 seconds off the pace this time as he battles to service for repairs.

Juha Kankkunen's Hyundai is still crippled by low turbo boost. The former World Champion dropped another 31.4s on Vastila.
