Sordo secures extended programme

Dani Sordo will extend his season by a further two events following next weekend's Rally Argentina after finding the necessary backing

Reigning JWRC champion Sordo had been expected to attempt to defend his title this season, but the Spaniard has impressed in early season rounds in a Kronos Racing-run Citroen Xsara WRC, prompting the desire for more rounds in WRC machinery.

Sordo finished second in his home event and third in Corsica.

Kronos Racing team boss Marc Van Dalen has revealed that Sordo has found the funding to compete with them in both Sardinia and Greece, meaning he will have completed half the championship with the team.

"Regarding the rest of his programme, there is good news," Van Dalen said. "His Spanish supports and partners have decided to help him compete in a WRC car in Sardinia and Greece which will be the two remaining events before the season break.

"He participated in these two events last year in Super 1600."

The championship takes a two-month summer break after the Acropolis Rally, allowing Sordo extra time to find the funding to extend his WRC season yet further.

Van Dalen is optimistic of a strong result for Sordo in next week's Argentinean Rally.

"In Argentina, we hope to see him drive on a higher pace than Mexico but he has to keep in mind that his priority number one is to be at the finish to pile up the most experience he can," Van Dalen said.
