McRae upbeat after asphalt testing
Ford star Colin McRae is upbeat over his chances of continuing his impressive start to the World Rally Championship on the upcoming asphalt rounds in Corsica and Catalonia after a positive test session in Spain last week
McRae told AUTOSPORT's sister publication Motorsport News that he is aiming to add to his points haul from Monte Carlo and Sweden.
"Having tested the new tyres, I'll be very, very disappointed if we don't get some points," said McRae. "I'm not completely confident we can be up there with the Citroens and the Peugeots - there was quite a big gap before, and I'll be very surprised if we've made all of that gap up in this test."
Despite his feelings about the new rubber, McRae admits he is not much of a fan of the asphalt events in Corsica (March 8-10) and Catalonia (March 22-24).
"I wouldn't say I was looking forward to the next two rallies," he admitted. "We have made some improvements, and we'll just have to see how they perform - but, for me, it'll be better when we get to Cyprus. I prefer gravel events."
McRae currently lies in sixth place in the World Championship in his Ford Focus, eight points behind series leader Marcus Gronholm of Peugeot.
