American driver Tanner Foust became the first double winner of the 2013 European Rallycross Championship at Kouvola in Finland

Kouvola European Rallycross: Tanner Foust takes second win of 2013

However, while Foust was a worthy winner, Petter Solberg will rue a broken steering arm on his Citroen DS3 during the fifth lap, a problem that put the Norwegian out of the race while in a commanding lead.

Solberg started on the front row of the gird, and made a brave yet brilliant move around the outside of the pack into the first corner. Poleman Timur Timerzyanov followed in second ahead of Foust, who leapt forward from the back of the field.

Liam Doran followed, and took the joker on the first lap, ahead of his team-mate Andreas Bakkerud.

Fourth place man Timmy Hansen was next to use the joker on lap two, returning to the main circuit ahead of Bakkerud, who passed Doran into the last corner on lap two, only for the young Norwegian's car to slow, stopping on the loose section, baulking Hansen and allowing Doran through into fourth.

As Solberg pulled out a substantial lead, Hansen repassed Doran going into the last corner on lap four. Solberg looked to have it in the bag, only for a steering arm to fail on his Citroen on lap five just before the jump.

As he wrestled the car around the next corner, he was passed by second place man Foust, before the rest of the field followed.

Solberg attempted to drive through the joker lap but could not go any further, retiring on the spot.

Foust took the win ahead of Timerzyanov, Hansen and Doran.
