Risi also eyeing four-minute barrier

Leading GT2 team Risi Competizione believe they can break the four-minute barrier in their Ferrari 430 in this evening's qualifying sessions for the Le Mans 24 Hours

Flying Lizards Porsche driver Jorg Bergmeister predicted that he could post a sub four-minute lap when qualifying resumes later today, and Risi's Jaime Melo believes the No.82 Ferrari 430 is also capable of being the first GT2 car under four minutes.

"I think we can go quicker if it's dry," he told autosport.com. "I think a sub-four minute lap is possible.

"I had quite a lot of understeer, especially in the high-speed corners. We still have something to find."

Melo's teammate Gianmaria Bruni also claimed that the car could go faster, but did concede that the improvements to the Porsches have made them formidable, particularly in a straight line.

"The Porsche is much faster, more stable, and they destroy the tyres less than last year," he said.

"If today is dry we have the chance to improve our time. We're looking okay on race pace."

Rain has been predicted for tonight's qualifying sessions, but the weather today has so far been mainly dry.
