McNish expects flat-out battle

Allan McNish believes that the battle for overall victory is still going to be closely fought despite Audi's strong start to the race

The No. 2 Audi R10 that McNish is sharing with Dindo Capello and Tom Kristensen has led comfortably during the early stages of the race, but the Scottish driver believes that Audi cannot take their position for granted.

"The one area that we don't know is how their race plan will run out," McNish told autosport.com. "There are lots of valuables that we don't have answers to."

McNish admitted that Audi could not afford to worry about what Peugeot were doing though, as they would not be able to change their own plans.

"We know what we can do, but we don't know what they will do," he added. "But we can't change our plan either.

The 1998 Le Mans winner also admitted that Audi were unable to predict how Peugeot would tackle the race because they have no experience of battling the French team.

"It's not like we've all been racing together for two or three seasons and we all know each other's strengths and weaknesses," he said.
