Gavin: weather to decide the race

The Corvette outfit has taken five GT1 class wins in the last six years at the endurance classic.

But with wildly changeable weather forecast for the entire weekend, Gavin said that risk management and a touch of luck will play a big part in the team's fortunes

"The car has been good in the rain," said the Briton. "Weather is going to be the biggest challenge, and the story of the race. It's going to be changeable. Sometimes dry, but with big heavy showers.

"We need to be prepared as much as possible, making quick decisions but also driving carefully. I think we have got the best team in the pit lane.

"It will be important to put the car at as little risk as possible. We need to take as few risks as possible, but while still keeping the pace, which will be difficult.

"You could be coming out of Mulsanne and there is a river running across the track, you keep to your line, and a car passing you could spin and take you off. It is something that you can't predict."

The number 64 Corvette C6-R that Gavin is sharing with Olivier Beretta and Max Papis qualified third in the GT1 class.
