Neel Jani tests updated Porsche LMP1 car ahead of 2014 campaign
Porsche has handed Neel Jani his first full test of its updated LMP1 hybrid as part of its ongoing testing programme ahead of its 2014 World Endurance Championship entry
Jani, one of the four drivers confirmed for next year's campaign, had previously completed a brief shakedown at the team's Weissach test track.
His latest run was far more comprehensive, with Porsche trialling car updates and also commencing with its first pitstop and refuelling routines.
While Porsche's initial test runs took place at Weissach, it confirmed it has now switched its attention to running on "international circuits".
AUTOSPORT understands the firm has mapped out a full test programme running throughout 2013 and into the early stages of 2014, with the intention to bring new parts and updates for each run.
"The current test drives are enabling us to collect huge amounts of vital data; every single kilometre driven is important," Porsche LMP1 vice president Fritz Enzinger said.
"However, in order to develop the highly complex LMP1 racing car so that it is fit to compete by the start of next year's season, many more kilometres of testing are required.
"We are pleased with the progress being made with each test."
Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas complete a three-man test team available to Porsche, with Mark Webber set to join the team in 2014, at the completion of his current Formula 1 deal with Red Bull.
