Winterbottom grabs tight race two pole

Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom took a tight pole position for race two of the L&H 500 at Phillip Island

Winterbottom just edged out Fabian Coulthard and Rick Kelly for the top spot. Jim Beam Racing's James Courtney and Team BOC's Jason Richards complete the top five, all within two-tenths of a second of pole position.

Jason Bright was sixth for Fujitsu Racing, ahead of championship contenders Jamie Whincup and Garth Tander, with Alex Davison and Jonathon Webb in ninth and tenth.

James Thompson's V8 Supercar debut in the second Team Vodafone car saw him qualify in 21st position, three places ahead of triple World Touring Car champion Andy Priaulx in his return to the series after a few years away.

Triple World Superbike champion Troy Bayliss qualified last in his series debut.
