Tander victorious in race one
Garth Tander continued on from where he left off at Barbagallo by winning race one of the PlaceMakers V8 Supercars at Pukekohe, New Zealand
Tander didn't have it easy but strong pace throughout the race paid off, as he took victory ahead of Mark Winterbottom, with Tander's teammate Rick Kelly completing the podium.
At the start, both Toll HSV cars passed the Ford Performance Racing cars ahead of them, as the top four pulled away from the rest of the field, Tander just ahead of Winterbottom, with a couple of seconds back to Rick Kelly who was just ahead of Richards.
Just before half-distance the compulsory pit stops began, and it was the FPR duo who pitted first and benefitted, Winterbottom moving ahead of Tander in the lead while Richards leapfrogged Kelly.
But Richards was almost immediately under pressure from Kelly, though he couldn't find a way past. At the front, Tander began to steadily reel in Winterbottom.
On lap 36 of 43 Kelly finally got alongside Richards into the hairpin, Jamie Whincup also making his way past Richards before the end of the lap.
Two laps later and Winterbottom succumbed to Tander, and that was the way it stayed to the flag.
Both Mark Skaife and James Courtney had slow pit-stops, but still managed to finish in the top ten in ninth and tenth respectively, while an off-track excursion for Craig Lowndes saw him finish in fourteenth place.
