Tander wins again in race two

Toll HSV's Garth Tander continued his winning streak with victory in race two of the PlaceMakers V8 Supercars at Pukekohe, New Zealand

Tander took the win ahead of Team Vodafone's Jamie Whincup and his own teammate Rick Kelly, with Rick's brother Todd in fourth.

At the start, Whincup jumped from fourth to second before taking the lead from the Tander at the hairpin at the end of the back straight. However, one lap later Tander repaid the favour and took back the lead.

Meanwhile Steven Richards, who had started fifth, was down to 28th after bouncing off the side of Todd Kelly through turns two and three on lap one.

Lap five saw Mark Winterbottom pass Whincup just after the start/finish line to move into second, gradually closing in on Tander as they approached the compulsory stops.

The leading duo pitted at the same time, with Winterbottom emerging ahead of Tander. However, a locked right front brake at the hairpin on his out lap saw Winterbottom head off the road, costing him nine places, before having to pit a lap later after the tyre failed, leaving Tander somewhat on his own.

Two safety cars, one on lap 28 for Jason Richards when his front left suspension failed under brakes at the hairpin, and another on lap 37 when Jason Bargwanna crashed into the wall exiting the final turn, compressed the field but it wasn't enough to stop Tander from taking his fifth consecutive race win ahead of Whincup and teammate Kelly.
