Skaife on Symmons Plains pole

Holden Racing Team's Mark Skaife has taken pole for this weekend's Ferodo Tasmania Challenge at Symmons Plains Raceway

Skaife was fifth fastest in qualifying after topping yesterday's practice session, and topped the times in today's top ten shootout to secure pole for race one. Alongside Skaife on the front row is Toll HSV's Garth Tander, less than a tenth off Skaife's time.

The next three places are taken by Fords, with Ford Performance Racing's Jason Bright and Mark Winterbottom in third and fifth sandwiching the Jeld-Wen Falcon of James Courtney in fourth position.

Rick Kelly, just 30 points behind Craig Lowndes in the title battle, is next, just ahead of brother Todd. Lowndes weekend hasn't started too well, qualifying eleventh and missing the shootout completely, his teammate Jamie Whincup just one place ahead.

Russell Ingall's slim title hopes have not been helped by qualifying 17th, thirteen places behind rookie teammate Courtney.
