Skaife holds on in race 1
Mark Skaife has continued his hot streak with victory in the first race of the Perth V8 400 at Barbagallo Raceway
Garth Tander took the lead at the start but lost ground on lap two, as Skaife and the Kelly brothers swept past him. From that point onwards, Skaife led all the way apart from during the pit stops.
However, he came under heavy pressure from Steven Richards and Craig Lowndes in the second half of the race, this duo completing race one's podium.
Garth Tander recovered from his lap two problems to finish the race a close fourth, just ahead of Jason Bright. Bright's teammate Mark Winterbottom faded in the second half of the race but still finished in sixth place.
A good race for Todd Kelly turned sour early on when a gear selection problem struck his car while running second on lap 5, the team eventually fixing the problem so that Kelly could finish the race, and will therefore start second in Sunday's reverse grid race.
Russell Ingall made up some ground from his starting position to finish tenth, while an off and problems in the pits meant Jamie Whincup's bad weekend continued, finishing the race in 21st place.
